Economic and environmental dimension

The OSCE's economic and environmental dimension (so-called “2nd dimension”) provides the framework for concrete cooperation and exchanges among OSCE participating States on topical economic and environmental issues.
It thereby contributes to the creation of comprehensive security in the OSCE area. The program of the 2022 Polish Chairpersonship focuses on post-Covid-19 recovery, which also takes environmental protection and sustainable connectivity into account. Further topics are digital transformation, human capital development as well as environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources, including renewable energy and energy efficiency. Since 24 February, increasing attention is given to the economic and environmental consequences of Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine, including the impact on global food security. In addition, Germany is committed to highlighting the issue of climate change and security based on the Ministerial Council decision adopted in Stockholm in 2021. The Coordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities also continues to implement projects on anti-corruption, transboundary water management, and labour migration. Under Germany's OSCE Presidency in 2016, “good governance” and “connectivity” were particular focal points, the implementation of which we are continuing to drive forward in the OSCE.
